My First Album: "Music Is My Life"

On Thursday, July 25, I released my first album titled "Music is My Life"! Over the summer, I promised myself that I would write and produce an album to call my own. So, that is what I did! On the album, I wrote nine of the songs, recorded two versions of one song, and did three covers, ending in a total of 13 tracks.

I used songs I had written the year before to start out with. I chose "Game Over" and "Don't Hate On Me". This year, I wrote songs more frequently. Out of the songs I wrote this year, I chose: "There For You (Never There For Me)", "Perfect Day", "Stay Strong", "Trying", "Need No One", "Catching On", and "S(he) Be(lie)ve(d)". Writing the album was so much fun for me!

I took a trip to Florida this summer with my family, and I spent a lot of time on the beach. My cousin, Catie, and I decided to write a scenic song complementing the amazing time we had spent together at that beach. So, I brought my ukulele and songwriting notebook and we sat in the sand and spent the day writing about our PERFECT DAY

Since I wrote Don't Hate On Me, I have been really inspired to write songs about anti bullying and Individuality. So, one day I wrote the song "Stay Strong". This song is about being yourself, and not letting others tell you who you are or how to act. It tells how you should stand up for what you believe in and STAY STRONG.

"Game Over" and "Trying" are complete opposites in song lyrics. "Game Over" was the first song I ever wrote. It was written in a "video game" theme. Several lyrics referred to gaming terms. The song is about how manipulative their love was, and how she saw right through him telling him it was GAME OVER. "Trying" was a completely different story. It's about how this girl is TRYING to make herself visible to her crush, but is being shut out from his world, making her invisible to him.

"Need No One" is about how dependent this girl was on her boyfriend, but not herself. She then realized, she didn't need him to be happy, strong, and confident. All she needed was to be independent.

"Catching On" was based off of the Hunger Games Series. It's about how, in this case, Katniss' actions in the Hunger Games reflected on the events to come. She knew she needed to fight back and start a rebellion, so that fact started CATCHING ON.

One day, I was looking through photos on Instagram, and I saw a photo of this saying: S(he) Be(lie)ve(d). I thought the title was brilliant, and I decided to write a song based on that idea. The song is simply about how a girl was tricked and deceived by her boyfriend's lies. She fully trusted him enough to stay with him, but he mistreated that trust, and fooled her completely.

For the covers, I chose "Brave" by Sara Bareilles, "Warrior" by Demi Lovato, and "Cups" by Anna Kendrick. I sung "Brave" because it's a strong song about self-empowerment. The lyrics tell you what you're really capable of, and they tell you to stand up for who you are and be BRAVE. In "Warrior", it talks about the hard times Demi went through, and how she overcame her hardships and became better than ever; a WARRIOR. Both songs had a very moving and inspiring message. I learned " The Cup Song" after it became quite popular from the movie "Pitch Perfect". After I learned, I couldn't stop repeating it! I thought it was a fun catchy song to put on the album.

I produced my whole album in a period of 3 weeks using an apple program called Garageband. I experimented with several different drum and guitar loops, harmonizing vocals, "smart violins", my ukulele, and my piano. I tried to give each song a unique style using different types of instruments and different tones.

I am very excited about this accomplishment! If anyone has any interest in this album, please contact me through this website.

Thank you very much for reading, and I hope you'll listen to a couple tracks!
